Mauro Caviezel Wins First Speed Race of the Season in Val d'Isère

Mauro Caviezel (SUI) reminded everyone once again why he has won last year's Super-G Globe and took his first World Cup victory of the season today in Val d'Isère. He had finished in the top five in each of the last seven Super-G races and today he did even better scoring the fastest time with a clean run.

Caviezel was not the only one to celebrate a 'first-time' success. Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (NOR) and Christian Walder (AUT), who started shortly after the Swiss speed ace, finished respectively in second and third place, achieving the first World Cup podium of their career.

Caviezel himself was unable to assess the success immediately after the race: “I don't quite understand it yet. That it worked now is incredible after my injury story".

Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, who was only 0.10s slower than Caviezel, was the fastest of the Attacking Vikings. His best result until today was a fourth place in Kvitfjell's Super-G back in 2018.

Christian Walder picked it up where he left off and built on his positive moment after the fourth place scored in Saalbach-Hinterglemm last season! He finished third, 0.54s behind the leader, just ahead of Travis Ganong (USA) and teammate Vincent Kriechmayr.
