Lenzerheide, paradise for snow sports.
Lenzerheide is a ski resort in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland at the foot of the Parpaner Rothorn. The village, located at an altitude of 1500 metres above sea level, lies in a broadened section of the valley between the cantonal capital Chur to the north and Tiefencastel, beyond which are the Julier Pass and St Moritz. The high valley forms a pass of no official name, often referred to as Lenzerheide Pass, reaching summit at 1549 m between Valbella and Parpan, approximately 5 kilometers south of the resort of Lenzerheide.
Since the opening of the Urdenbahn in January 2014, the Lenzerheide ski resort was linked with Arosa by the spectacular Urden aerial railway, -which floats above the Urdental and takes skiers from the Arosa Hörnli to the Urdenfürggli in Lenzerheide or back within 5 minutes-, creating the new ski resort of Arosa-Lenzerheide.
Since the opening of the Obertor chairlift, the two sides of the valley in Lenzerheide have also been connected, making the snow sports experience from Piz Scalottas to the Arosa Weisshorn perfect throughout.
With a total of 225 kilometers of ski slopes and 43 cable cars it is the largest contiguous ski area in Graubünden. The ski area covers an altitudinal range of 1,230 to 2,865 m. Outstanding summits with aerial tramways and panoramic restaurants are the Weisshorn and the Parpaner Rothorn which also marks the highest point of the ski area. Here, a sun terrace and panorama restaurant invite you to sit back enjoy the views. You could spot as many as 1,000 peaks from up here.
60% of the slopes are covered with snow-making facilities to guarantee the best conditions throughout the ski season. The two sides of the valley have sun either in the morning or in the afternoon, making for a 360 degree sunshine experience for the winter sport guests.
Those who like to explore the surroundings of Lenzerheide on foot can choose from a total of 80 km of winter hiking trails including 7 marked roundtrip tours. A perfect option to stretch your legs after a day of skiing.
The World Cup Races in Lenzerheide have a long tradition, as the first races were held in Parpan as early as the 1982-1983 winter season.
Since 1993 the International Ski Federation (FIS) has hosted a World Cup Final at the end of each season in March.
From 17 to 21 March 2021, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Final will take place in Lenzerheide for the sixth time (previous editions were held in 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013, and 2014). Once again, the 25 best athletes per discipline, plus the current junior World Champions in each discipline, will fight one last time in the final for points for the disciplines small crystal globes and the overall World Cup crystal globe on the famous «Silvano Beltrametti» World Cup track on the Heimberg in Parpan.
The Alpine FIS Ski World Cup will again be in Lenzerheide in the 2021-2022 season. On March 5 and 6, 2022, two Women's World Cup Races in the Giant Slalom and Slalom disciplines will be held on the "Silvano Beltrametti" racecourse.
Deep snowy couloirs and steep slopes with rocky outcrops are waiting for experienced freeriders. The Parpaner Rothorn and the Arosa Weisshorn belong to the most famous Swiss freeride mountains. The Lenzerheide - Arosa - Tschiertschen - Lenzerheide ski safari offers pure nature experiences away from the slopes.
Freeriders can now experience a new highlight in the form of the 3-lane tour that is unique in the Alps. With only one booked ticket, the tour can be started in Arosa, Lenzerheide, Tschiertschen or Davos and can be realized as a one-day or multi-day tour.
The wellness area H2Lai in Lenzerheide sports centre is a place of rest and relaxation. The year-round heated outdoor whirlpool with massage jets, massage beds and floor bubbling is one of the highlights of the Lenzerheide sports centre.
