Aleksander Aamodt Kilde wins today's Super-G in Bormio. This was Kilde's tenth career World Cup win (6 SG, 4 DH). The 29-year-old Viking is the clear dominant man on the Super-G. After today's victory, he is now leading the Super-G standings.
He has claimed four World Cup wins this season, three in the Super-G and one in the Downhill. Only Marco Odermatt (4) has won as many World Cup events among men this season.
The last man to claim three successive World Cup victories in the Super-G was his teammate Kjetil Jansrud in December 2016 (Val d'Isère, Val Gardena, Santa Caterina).
Kilde's four World Cup wins this season are already a personal record for him in a single season. The most recent Norwegian skiers to achieve more victories in one World Cup season were Henrik Kristoffersen and Kjetil Jansrud (both 5 in 2016-2017).
"Unbelievable, I have no idea why I'm so fast. It just works. My turns fit better than on the Downhill. I would like to win a lot this season. And it started really well, I think", Kilde said.
With bib number 25, Raphael Haaser almost turned the classification upside down. Ultimately, only Kilde stayed out of reach. Haaser finished in second place 0.72 seconds behind Kilde.
It's his first podium in the World Cup. His best result until today was fourth place in the Super-G in Saalbach- Hinterglemm on March 7, 2021. This season the 24-year-old skier from Tirol finished in 8th place in the Super-G in Beaver Creek.
“I'm a little speechless. The first podium is always something special. There are definitely easier courses than the Stelvio where you could do that. As a team, we can be extremely satisfied with the race", said Haaser.
Vincent Kriechmayr rounded out today's podium in third place +0.85 behind the Norwegian. He finished in the Top 5 in each of the last eight World Cup Super-G events, including wins in Kitzbühel and Garmisch-Partenkirchen earlier this year. He finished second in last year's races in Bormio (Downhill and Super-G).
“Unfortunately I lost too much at the top, so I wasn't happy at the finish either. Kilde has skied amazingly. Maybe he had better light, but I got a better number", said Kriechmayr.
