Alexis Pinturault (FRA) claims the first Alpine Combined of the season in great style, ahead of Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR) and Loic Meillard (SUI).
The French skier finished the very challenging Super-G in 12th position, 0.97s behind Kilde, who was leading after the Super G. Pinturault skied a very convincing and solid Slalom run to climb up 11 positions and take his 26th career victory.
The man who really impressed today was Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who only lost one position in the second run thanks to a nearly perfect slalom performance. The Norwegian finished second 0.51s behind Pinturault and now leads the Overall Ranking.
Loic Meillard was 8th after the Super G and was able to significantly improve his position in the slalom run to achieve his third World Cup podium.
A New Combined Format Debuts in Bormio. That means not reversing the top 30 finishers from the speed run in the afternoon’s run of slalom like what is done for second runs of traditional slalom and giant slalom.
"I think it’s a really big advantage for the downhillers because they just have to ski normally on the Super-G or downhill and then they will start in the first group in the slalom, that makes a really huge difference", Pinturault shared of the new format. "We didn’t see any slalom guys coming from the back who were able to come close to the podium today. It shows how hard it is for the slalom skiers when they are not coming close to a minimum around the top 10 after the super-G or the Downhill".
