Alexis Pinturault was on a league of his own in today’s Giant Slalom in Adelboden.
The legendary Chuenisbärgli racecourse saw a dominant Pinturault who has returned to the top of the podium in Adelboden three years after winning here for the first time (2017). He set the best time in both runs to finished 1.04 seconds ahead of Filip Zubcic and 1.11 of Marco Odermatt.
Alexis Pinturault has won the most recent World Cup Giant Slalom race in Alta Badia and has finished in the top five in each of the five Giant Slalom races this season.
Pinturault now has won 15 World Cup Giant Slalom events in the World Cup. He has won 32 World Cup events in all disciplines, one short of Bode Miller (33) in ninth place all-time among men.
The Frenchman Pinturault is the first man to win successive Giant Slalom World Cup races since he himself achieved this in Soldeu (March 2019) and Sölden (October 2019). The last man to win back-to-back World Cup Giant Slalom events in a single season was Henrik Kristoffersen in Bansko and Kranjska Gora in February and March 2019.
"It came from my first run, that's what made the difference and it was very close in the second run – I was just (seven) hundredths to (Zubcic). Today, the first run for me was very important", Pinturault said.
Second place went to Croatian Filip Zubcic, who, after finishing third in the first run, completed a near-flawless second run to move up a spot in the standings. Zubcic has continued showing his strong skiing this season, finishing on the podium for the third time (he was first and third in Santa Caterina).
Third place was claimed by Marco Odermatt, who ended Switzerland’s 13-year giant slalom podium drought in Adelboden. Odermatt has finished on the podium in four of five Giant Slalom races this World Cup season.
