Corinne Suter Wins Downhill Gold in Cortina 2021

Corinne Suter wins the Downhill Race at the 2021 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Cortina with a winning time of 1:34.27 seconds. Behind Suter in second place (+0.20 sec) was Kira Weidle from Germany. Lara Gut-Behrami (+0.37 sec) finished in third place.

It is the third medal for the Swiss Ladies Team.

Suter is the first Swiss woman to win the Downhill world title since Maria Walliser in 1989.

On Thursday 11 February Suter won silver in the Women's Super-G as she finished second behind Lara Gut-Behrami. Like in Åre, Corinne Suter has collected a world championship medal in both the Super-G and Downhill. In 2019 she claimed silver in the Women's Downhill and bronze in Super-G.

"My run was really good. I did what I wanted, what I needed to give me the space and take the speed with me. I am super happy", Suter said.

First medal for 24-year-old Kira Weidle. She has been on the podium only twice in the past, at Lake Louise (2018) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (2019).

"It's kind of unbelievable. I'm just happy. I was hoping for a medal and it was my biggest goal today and while I was racing I really felt good, no big mistakes, so I knew I could be fast", Weidle said.

It is the second medal for Lara Gut-Behrami In Cortina 2021 after winning Gold in the Super-G. Only Lindsey Vonn has won more world championship medals in the Women's speed events than Lara Gut-Behrami.
