MartaBassino Wins Back-To-Back Giant Slalom in Kranjska Gora

Marta Bassino won her second Giant Slalom in two days ahead of Michelle Gisin and Meta Hrovat, earning her fourth victory in the discipline this season. Every time she had finished a race in Giant Slalom she has won.

She became the second woman from Italy to complete a Giant Slalom double in a World Cup season after 3-time Olympic champion Deborah Compagnoni in 1997 (Zwiesel, Germany).

Today looked like it could be more of a challenge for Bassino, who sat in second place behind Mikaela Shiffrin after the first run. But Shiffrin lost a lot of time on the bottom half of the course and ultimately had to settle for sixth place.

It’s so amazing, I am so emotional. It’s like a dream, I can’t believe it”, Bassino said.

Switzerland's Michelle Gisin proved again to be one of the most consistent skiers this season finishing second 0.66 sec behind Bassino. Before this weekend she had not earned a World Cup Giant Slalom podium place and walks away from Kranjska Gora with two podiums (a third and a second-place). Gisin is now only 60 points behind World Cup overall leader Petra Vlhova, who finished today in 10th position.

Rounding out the podium was Slovenian Meta Hrovat, who earned just her third career World Cup podium. The last time she was on the podium was exactly one year ago during the same race weekend in Kranjska Gora.
