Sofia Goggia claims today her second World Cup win in Cortina d'Ampezzo, after winning the Downhill event on 19 January 2018. She confirmed her favorite role in Cortina with an unusual line despite a couple of heart-stopping mistakes in the two first sections of the race. It's her fourth Downhill win and her 6th win of the season.

Goggia has won 12 World Cup Downhill races. She claims today her second World Cup win in Cortina d'Ampezzo, after winning the Downhill event on 19 January 2018.

The Italian leads the Downhill World Cup standings, 136 points ahead of Ramona Siebenhofer and 160 of Breezy Johnson. Goggia won her second Downhill crystal globe last campaign, after 2017-2018. The 29-year-old Italian is hoping to become the first woman to win the Downhill globe in successive seasons since Vonn (2014-2015, 2015-2016).

I had a lot of wind and could hardly see anything. It was really tough, I knew I had to push as hard as I could because the start with the first section is not my best part, But I thought to myself, you're a wild hen, the weather is nice and the descent is great. It's the best ski day of my career, especially after last week's fall. It was a wild race and it's unbelievable", Goggia said.

Ramona Siebenhofer finished in second place +0.20 seconds behind Goggia. She finished in the top four in four of the five World Cup Downhill events of this season. He finished in third place last weekend in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. It was her first podium finish of the season.

I'm really happy about second place, it was a very close race, especially when it's so short (the racecourse was shortened due to strong winds). I tried to push from top to bottom. It felt like a good ride and I can't blame myself for anything", said Siebenhofer.

"This result gives me confidence for the Olympics, which start in a couple of weeks. I really like Cortina, the Olympia delle Tofane is one of my favorite slopes. Sofia Goggia? She is in great shape; she always remains calm in every situation and tries to find the fastest line", added Siebenhofer.

Ester Ledecka finished in third place +0.26 seconds behind the Italian. It's her sixth podium in the World Cup, the fourth one in the Downhill. The last time she finished in the Top-3 was in Crans Montana exactly one year ago. The Czech pushed Corinne Suter off the podium.

"Last year I came fourth twice at the Alpine Ski World Championships and this third place is a small redemption for me. I am happy with the podium but not too much with my performance: I made a lot of mistakes and I need to work on them”, Ledecka said.
