Franz Klammer had to wait 45 years for a film about his great skiing career. The one about Aksel Lund Svindal, on the other hand, comes to the cinemas only two and a half years after the successful Norwegian skier bowed out.
We attend a presentation with three clips on October 22 at the World Cup kick-off in Sölden.
This up-close-and-personal film follows Aksel Lund Svindal, his family, and his team. The film depicts dramatic events on the slopes, ups and downs of life, and the struggle against a body that struggles to withstand the stresses. "Aksel" is an intimate portrait of the career and final ski racing years of one of the greatest skiers of all time.
In the 1:50 hour-long documentary, the scenes of serious falls and injuries, as well as the resurrection of the winner of 36 World Cup races, are really impressive. In 2007, Svindal sustained such severe wounds in Beaver Creek that internal injuries were feared. A year later he won his comeback race on the mythic Birds of Prey.
Looking back has, at times, be painful. But true to his style, Svindal says it was the only way to make the film.
“Definitely, the scenes where I’m all drugged up were tough, (...) This is definitely a side of myself I’d never seen before. But it’s like anything – if you’re doing something, you want to do it well and show it all”.

"Aksel", was released in Norway on October 15, 2021. will be released in cinemas in Austria and South Tyrol on November 12, 2021, and in Germany at the beginning of December.
