Lara Gut-Behrami is the Ski Queen of Garmisch

Lara Gut-Behrami wins the second Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It was her 5th straight podium and fourth straight Super-G victory after winning the last 3 discipline races in St. Anton am Arlberg, Crans-Montana, and here in Garmisch last Saturday.

It's also her fourth win in the German town of Bayern (she won also here in 2016 and 2017), and 30th in the World Cup.

Today's Victory confirms Gut-Behrami in second place in the overall World Cup standings behind Petra Vlhova. She also extends her lead in the super-G season standings with a 195-point advantage over teammate Corrine Suter. With only two Super-G more to race in the World Cup Gut-Behrami is the virtual winner of the discipline.

"I was able to try to give everything that I had today. For sure when you're confident. even when you're not in top shape, it's easier to let your skis go and somehow is the skis that help you be fast", Gut-Behrami said.

"But It was exhausting. I am glad that I am able to do such runs despite the fatigue. This cannot be taken for granted at all and I am proud of it", she added.

Petra Vlhova finished in second place, only 0.28 seconds behind the Swiss thanks to a solid run. It was enough to keep her lead in the overall standings, but now with only a 42-point advantage with 11 races left in the World Cup season.

Until today Petra Vlhová had achieved 40 World Cup podiums in all disciplines, but none of them in the Super-G. Her best result in this discipline had been a fourth place in La Thuile in February 2020.

Tamara Tippler rounded out the podium in third place, 0.74 seconds behind Gut-Behrami. It was her third podium of the year.

She has finished on the podium in a World Cup Super-G race on seven occasions but never won (2nd three times, 3rd four times). This is the Women's record of most podium places without ever winning in this discipline.

The women now have nearly 10 days to prepare for the 2021 FIS World Ski Championships in Cortina, which kick off on Monday 8th February. There are six gold medals on the line during the two weeks of action with the Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, Slalom, Alpine Combined, and Parallel titles on the line.
